How fees work

Gifts made on chipin.me go directly to the organization's own Stripe account. chipin.me charges the organization a 2.5% platform fee on each gift. The organization's card processor charges its own fee. Donors cover both on top of their gift, so the organization receives the full gift.

Worked out in dollars

Card processing is estimated at Stripe's standard rate, 2.9% plus 30¢. Registered nonprofits with Stripe's nonprofit rate, 2.2% plus 30¢, pay a little less, and the page shows the exact figure before anyone pays. The processor's real fee is read back after each gift.

With the nonprofit rate: $5.00 is $5.57, $25.00 is $26.55, $100.00 is $105.25, $1,000.00 is $1,049.64. Rounding always lands in the organization's favor, by a cent at most.

Pages with an outside donation link

Some pages send you to the cause's own donation page, NYRR or Donorbox for example. chipin.me takes nothing from those gifts. The fundraiser matches your donation to your square by hand, and your receipt comes from that site.

Receipts and refunds

When you pay on chipin.me, your receipt comes from the organization, with its legal name and EIN, for the full amount you paid. Refunds are the organization's call, from its own Stripe dashboard or its chipin.me console; whenever a gift is refunded, chipin.me returns its fee too.

What chipin.me is

chipin.me is a fundraising platform. It never holds charitable money: each gift is charged by the organization on its own Stripe account, and chipin.me's fee is collected as a platform fee at the same moment. The organization is the merchant of record and keeps its own processing rate. Gear ordered from a page, shirts, towels, banners, is a separate purchase at the price shown.
